Hangzhou received more than 10 million visitors during the seven-day Spring Festival, or the Chinese New Year holiday, according to Hangzhou Tourism Commission yesterday.
Altogether 10.13 million people visited scenic spots in Hangzhou during the holiday. For the first day of the holiday, or the Chinese New Year's Eve, the number of visitors increased by 14.6 percent from the same time last year.
For West Lake Scenic Area, the number of visitors reached 3.21 million, dropping 5.42 percent from the same time last year. Among them, 2.25 million people visited free-of-charge scenic spots while the rest 962,000 people visited scenic spots with admission.
Hubin Park, Lingyin Temple, Su Causeway, Fish Viewing at the Flower Pond, Three Pools Mirroring the Moon and Yuhuang Mountain were the most popular destinations around West Lake.
The tourism income for the Spring Festival reached 1.32 billion yuan (US$206.25 million), rising 12.8 percent from the same period last year, or 2.6 percentage points higher than 2017 figure. And the increase was the highest since 2012.
The turnover of 36 leading department stores in the city rose 22.9 percent to 67.37 million yuan as more and more people do shopping and dining and spend their time with families in department stores during holidays.
