After hosting the successful G20 Summit last September, Hangzhou is working hard to build a world-class metropolis and has invited both Chinese and foreigners to join an essay-poetry contest called "My Impression of West Lake." The deadline for entries is September 30.
Submitted poems and essays must be original works in Chinese or English. A poem should be within 50 lines and an essay should have no more than 5,000 Chinese characters or 3,000 English words.
Senders must provide their real name, phone number, postal address, e-mail address and personal ID and agree to let the event organizer publish their works in print or online media. If they omit this, the organizer will take it for granted that they accept the terms.
All entries must be sent by email to firstname.lastname@example.org under the subject "My Impression of West Lake + writer's name + title of the writing" or through WeChat account "西湖征文".
The event organizer will provide two first prizes, each 5,000 yuan (US$735) in cash; six second prizes, each 2,000 yuan; nine third prizes, each 1,000 yuan; and 20 excellence prizes, each 500 yuan.
Winners will have their works published in a bilingual book, "My Impression of West Lake" with copyrights owned by the event organizer.
