Fengyu Maolu is the former residence of Chinese novelist and poet Yu Dafu (1896-1945). Yu designed the house himself and spent a lot of money building it in 1936. The house was his gift for Wang Yingxia but their marriage was short-lived. During China’s war against Japanese aggressors (1937-1945), Yu took an active part to arouse patriotism through writing. He was arrested by the Japanese forces in Singapore and secretly executed there. His house in Changguan Lane, 63 Daxue Road, has been turned into a memorial museum.
